TAGT Program Code of Conduct
TAGT is committed to providing a safe, productive, and welcoming environment for all meeting participants and TAGT staff. All participants, including, but not limited to, attendees, speakers, volunteers, exhibitors, TAGT staff members, service providers, and all others are expected to abide by this Programs Code of Conduct. This Policy applies to all TAGT meeting-related events, including those sponsored by organizations other than TAGT but held in conjunction with TAGT events, in-person or on public or private platforms.
TAGT has zero-tolerance for any form of discrimination or harassment, including but not limited to sexual harassment by participants or our staff at our meetings. If you experience harassment or hear of any incidents of unacceptable behavior, TAGT asks that you inform Paulina van Eeden Hill, CAE, Executive Director, at paulina@txgifted.org so that we can take the appropriate action.
Unacceptable Behavior is defined as:
- Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form.
- Verbal abuse of any attendee, speaker, volunteer, exhibitor, TAGT staff member, service provider, or other meeting guest. Examples of verbal abuse include, but are not limited to, verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, national origin, inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces or in presentations, or threatening or stalking any attendee, speaker, volunteer, exhibitor, TAGT staff member, service provider, or other meeting guest.
- Disruption of presentations during sessions, in the exhibit hall, or at other events organized by TAGT throughout the meeting. All participants must comply with the instructions of the moderator and any TAGT event staff.
- Presentations, postings, and messages should not contain promotional materials, special offers, job offers, product announcements, or solicitation for services. TAGT reserves the right to remove such messages and potentially ban sources of those solicitations.
- Participants should be aware that any activity that takes place in a chat or Q&A may be screenshotted, recorded or shared.
TAGT reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal from the meeting without warning or refund, in response to any incident of unacceptable behavior, and TAGT reserves the right to prohibit attendance at any future meeting, virtually or in person.
TAGT Acknowledgement and Release of Liability for Communicable Disease
The Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (herein TAGT) has taken preventative measures to reduce the spread of communicable disease including, but not limited to COVID-19 (“Communicable Disease”) at giftED. However, I acknowledge that TAGT cannot guarantee that I will not be exposed to or contract a Communicable Disease at the Event. Further, due to the nature of the facilities, services and programs offered at this Event, I understand that attending the Event could increase my risk of contracting a Communicable Disease.
I agree to abide by all applicable COVID-19-related requirements, advisories, policies, procedures, and protocols of the hotel and TAGT. TAGT will follow the most restrictive scientific guidelines as may be suggested by the CDC, Texas Department of Health Services, and any other health or governmental authority for the duration of my stay. I understand that if I do not wish to follow these policies, I can update my registration time to giftED and enjoy the event virtually.
I understand the risk that I may be exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease by attending the Event and that such exposure or infection may result in quarantine requirements, serious illness, permanent disability and/or death. I further understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by a Communicable Disease at the Event may result from the actions, omissions or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to, TAGT, its officers, employees, contractors, agents, representatives, sponsors, other participants, and any owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the Event (“Releasees”). I KNOWINGLY AND FREELY ASSUME ALL SUCH RISKS, BOTH KNOWN AND UNKNOWN, EVEN IF ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEES, and assume full responsibility for my participation in the Event.
In consideration of being allowed to participate in the Event, I, for myself and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives, and next of kin, acknowledge and agree as follows:
I HEREBY RELEASE, COVENANT NOT TO SUE, DISCHARGE AND HOLD HARMLESS the Releasees, with respect to any and all liabilities, claims, penalties, suits, demands, judgments, costs, interests and expenses (including attorneys’ fees and costs) arising from or relating to the illness, disability or death of myself (or any person who may contract a Communicable Disease, directly or indirectly, from me), as a direct or indirect result, in whole or in part, of a Communicable Disease, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
THIS WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY INCLUDES ANY CLAIMS BASED ON THE ACTIONS, OMISSIONS OR NEGLIGENCE OF THE RELEASEES, WHETHER AN INFECTION OCCURS BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER PARTICIPATION IN THE EVENT.
